Voltage instrument transformers VTO 38.P are single-phase single-pole insulated transformers designed for a usage in networks of high voltage from 3.6 kV to 40.5 kV. They are designed to measure and ensure distributing devices of hv of an outdoor implementation, especially railways. They are internally identical with the device VTO 38.P. They are equipped with the protection VPO-T80-38.5 kV on a hv side. In case of fault this protection can disconnect the device from high voltage without a more substantial influence on the surroundings. The device can also be used for powering.

The total surface length is 2006 mm (insulator 1133 mm + body 873 mm). All active parts of the transformer are poured by epoxy mixture which is resistant to external influences (UV radiation, humidity etc.) This substance fulfils not only an electrical-insulating function but also a mechanical one.

Transformers are fastened with the help of four screws M12 through holes in base brackets. The output of a primary winding 'A' is lead out with the help of the bolt M10.

The device insulator can be screwed and an insert VPO-T80-38.5 kV is placed inside. In case that the device is disconnected from the high voltage by the activity of protection, it is necessary to check an insulating state of the device according to possibilities, preferably at a manufacturer. A so-called false switching off of the protection can appear by the influence of different influences in the network. In such cases the insert can be exchanged for the new one. The way of exchange is clear from the picture below. It is necessary to be very careful during a repeated switching on of high voltage against a possible explosion of the device. When a repeated equipment of protection appears in a relatively short time after the switching off, the whole device has to be exchanged.

ATTENTION! During the manipulation with the device you cannot fasten behind an insulator or you can break it off. Insulator has to be tightened during screwing by pushing a rubber gasket by a natural human force until it stops.

To connect to secondary outputs we recommend using cable eyes according to the used conductor cross-section. Secondary terminal box is equipped with a cover which is waterproof (IP 65). The cover can be sealed. Attachment, which contains jumpers and screws for the possibility of earthing of the winding (see Instructions for assembly and service), is placed inside.

In cases, where a substitution for older types of transformers (different producers) is required, we deliver the devices VTO 38.P on adjusted base profiles with identical assembly spacing of supplemented types.

Voltage instrument transformers VTO 38.P met all the exams according to IEC 60044-2, GOST 1983-89 and they are approved by ČMI under the number TCM 212/05 – 4239. Version with a protection HVCP has a commercial trademark VTO 38.P.

This transformer is not designed as a self-locking one. To protect the appliance from destruction due to non-standard effects such as overvoltage, ferroresonance, transients etc., the transformer must be equipped with suitable transformer protection.
